Two hemp bath mitts, made from a blend of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton OR 45% bamboo french terry. The bumpy texture of the fabric makes for gentle exfoliation, and the blended-in cotton makes it soft enough for sensitive skin.

The cuff is 53% hemp, 42% organic cotton, 5% spandex. Hanging loop is made from 100% organic cotton webbing. New hemp/bamboo blend fabric available! The main part of the mitt is 55% hemp/45% organic cotton.

These are available in four sizes so you can get the perfect fit for your hands. They do stretch a little.

Women (or teens): 10 inches long, 3.5 inches wide on finger section

In Europe, wash mitts are a popular alternative to wash cloths in the shower. They are commonly a simple rectangle to slip over your hand. I first made a simple hemp rectangle, but I didn't like the way it kept falling off my hand when I used it in the shower. The second one I made had a stretchy cuff around the wrist to hold it on. That one stayed on my hand, but I really missed using my opposable thumb. My third try was mitten-shaped with the stretchy cuff, and that was my favorite! Use them to scrub your body in the shower, slip them on to quickly scrub down your kids in the bath, or use them to wash your face at the sink. A hanging loop has been added so they can drip dry.

The BEST PART about these wash mitts is that they are made out of hemp. We could talk about how sustainable, absorbent, and long lasting the hemp fiber is. But the most wonderful thing about my hemp wash mitts is this: you can leave them hanging in your shower for awhile and they won't get that funky smell. That's because hemp is naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. It does not attract and collect those yucky microbial friends that make your cotton wash cloths smell disgusting. (Yes, if you want to push your luck and leave it wet all week, it will eventually start getting funky. But it takes a lot longer to reach that point than cotton does.) Hemp is also more absorbent than cotton.

These wash mitts are made from pre-washed fabric, but they will continue to get a little more absorbent each time you wash them, reaching full absorbency after about 6-7 washings.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS: Hemp is a durable fiber. You may wash and dry these the same way you do your cotton towels. I do recommend that you use a detergent without chemical fragrances, dyes, or fabric softeners. You should avoid all fabric softeners (including dryer sheets). These will not ruin your mitts, but they will coat the fibers and make them less absorbent (and will pollute the air in your home and neighborhood). Bleach will make the fibers break down and wear out faster, but a little splash of bleach in your washing machine once a month shouldn't hurt. If your towels or wash cloths start to get stained or get a funky smell that won't wash away, try drying them outside on a line (sunshine is great for battling stains and odors). A few drops of tea tree oil in the wash will also help kill any mildew that gets an upper hand in your bath mitts.
